Dean Lane Railway Station
Dean Lane railway station is in Newton Heath, Manchester, England. The station is on the Oldham Loop Line 4 km (2½ miles) north east of Manchester Victoria operated and managed by Northern Rail. There were once three stations in Newton Heath: Newton Heath, Dean Lane and Park but now only Dean Lane survives. The station itself is metres away from the Newton Heath Train Maintenance Depot.
History
From about 1900 to his early death of pneumonia at the age of 44 in 1912, the Station Master was Henry Ainscough, living in the Station Master's house at 52 Dean Lane. (On his death, the family had to move, the cost of living in a tied accommodation).
Future
The present Manchester bound track and platform will be upgraded for trams as part of the Manchester Metrolink (Light Rail) expansion. See Oldham/Rochdale Line
Service
On Monday to Saturday daytimes from Dean Lane there is a half-hourly service to Manchester Victoria southbound and Rochdale northbound. In the evenings and on Sundays there is an hourly service in each direction.
